Lip of the Week – Australis Show Stopper Gloss

I'm a big fan of lip gloss but I kind of hate the icky sticky factor. Why do I always decide to wear gloss on days when I wear my hair down? Why must my hair inevitably end up IN my glossy pout. And a pout it sure is by the time I realise how frustrating lip gloss is.

Australis Show Stopper Gloss is a bit different. You don't quite get the high gloss of a traditional gloss – it is somewhere between a lipstick and a tinted lip balm with a glossy sheen. It is deliciously pigmented and the Fairy Floss lives up to its name.

I bought it weeks and weeks ago and promptly left it in the bottom of a make up bag and forgot about it. The bright pink was too hard to go past and the $10 special at Priceline (usually $12.95) made it impossible to resist but not really a necessity in my life – how many shiny pink lipsticks can a girl own?

I haven't tried the other colours – Hoola Hoop and Firework – but I would easily buy them and use them as my weekend go to's. One word of warning – this gloss-tinted lip balm-lip liner-lipstick/stain is a great multi purpose pencil in an easy to apply shape, but make sure you exfoliate your lips before application because the pastely pigments will reveal every tiny bit of dry skin!

Have you tried the Show Stopper Gloss? How do you feel about it?!

FOTD – Pink and Blue

I grew up in the 90s so I know blue eyeshadow is a tricky thing to get right. I mean, I've seen The Drew Carey Show and I learned very young that blue eye shadow is really just a no-no. But, seeing as leggings as pants, combat boots and dresses, and neons are back, maybe blue eye shadow can be given a second chance too.

I got a cool (and very cheap) eye shadow palette by Essence from Priceline a while back and I just love the aquas and turquoises. Paired with my favourite Body Shop LIp and Cheek Dome and an Australis Show Stopper Gloss in Fairy Floss, I gave pink and blue a bit of a go. What do you think?! This is my first FOTD on here so please be kind (no photo touch ups).

Base – Palmer's Eventone BB Cream

Eye Shadow – Essence Sunclub Palette

Mascara – Essence I <3 Extreme Volume Mascara (one of my all time FAVES!) and Maxfactor Xperience Mascara

Cheeks – The Body Shop Cheek and Lip Dome

Lips – Australis Show Stopper Stick $10 (on sale at Priceline when I bought it)

Sample size

Last week when Katherine wrote about the 5 'Try Before You Buy' tips, she urged you to try sample sizes first.

I love free samples.  It doesn't matter whether it's a sachet in a magazine, or a sample dropped into the letter box – I love them.  And I use them.  And I think all companies should use as many opportunities that they can to get their products into women's hands.

I have just had the most wonderful girl's week-end away at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, on the Gold Coast in Queensland.  It included two different cocktail functions on board two different boats on the Thursday night; Ladies on the Water lunch on Friday with Ita Buttrose as the guest speaker; and Ladies on the Water High Tea on the Saturday.

At the two Ladies on the Water functions we were presented with goody bags.  I love goody bags.  One of them even included Ita's latest book 'A Guide to Australian Etiquette'- For all occasions from weddings to work by Ita Buttrose. But enough about the book, what about the beauty products.  Palmer's gave us sachets of their great Cocoa Butter Formula and Alpha-H gave us samples of their two lovely products, Liquid Gold and Triple Action Cleanser.

The Palmer's Coca Butter is so thick and creamy, smells great and contains Vitamin E.  I will definately buy this product based on the great sample, and the fact that the company went out of its way to let me try it.  Probably wouldn't work so well in our hot, humid summer here, as the product is so thick, but for our cold, dry winter, it is perfect. The combination of Vitamin E and 100 percent cocoa butter gives deep and long lasting moisture.

The Alpha-H Liquid Gold is a powerful night time resurfacing and firming lotion for the skin. The promotion says it jump-starts the skin’s metabolism, tightens enlarged pores, and delivers lighter, clearer and more even skin tone.  Teamed with the Triple Action Cleanser, it feels really great.  It's a non-foaming gel cleansing gel that works by removing with a damp cloth.  I use a micro-fibre cloth, and that works really well.  The product also sucessfully removes all traces of face & eye makeup.

And if all that wasn't enough, when I got home on Monday, Priceline had sent me a Nivea sample sachet set of Visage Vital Soy Anti-Age Day Cream (with SPF12), Night Cream and Eye Cream for Mature Skin plus a $5 off voucher.  Great marketing Priceline and Nivea – five stars to both companies!  I'll be trying these next week and will let you know what I think.

Tried and Tested: Dry Body Brushing

The other week I came across this post by Kimmi from The Plastic Diaries about achieving super soft skin. I read, with interest, that she is an avid dry body brusher and loofaher (yeah, I made that up but you get the gist). Her post explains her favourite products and, more importantly, HOW exactly to successfully body brush.

Basically, you are trying to direct blood flow from your limbs to your heart to increase circulation and reduce cellulite, but for more extensive, step-by-step instructions click here to see her post. I also checked out Jess' tips from Well of Being and found them really helpful too.

I decided to take her advice and switch out my normal body puff for a more heavy duty hand-sized loofah. I also purchased a dry body brush (both EcoPure Bath from Priceline, relatively cheap)

I have been dry body brushing every morning before my shower (in the shower so as not to coat my bathroom with skin flakes) and then following that up with a warm shower using the loofah and body soap. When I get out of the shower, i moisturise with The Body Shop's Aloe Soothing Body Lotion while my skin is still damp and let it soak in. The results: the first time I tried dry body brushing, I couldn't believe how painful it was. I was concerned that the sharp bristles were going to welt my fairly sensitive skin but I could actually feel the blood pumping around my body (as weird as that sounds, it could have been from all the brushing movement though…). Surprisingly, there were no adverse effects to my skin and once I got out of the shower, there was no indication that it had been brushed too roughly at all.

I've been dry brushing for over a week and use the loofah at least once a day, often twice, and always follow up with a moisturiser or Bio Oil. I can honestly say that my skin feels amazing. My arms, in particular, used to always feel a bit rough and they are so smooth, also the skin on my stomach and hips is much softer and more even; there are visible improvements!

It's sometimes hard to add another 10 minutes to your morning routine, but I think it's worth it! I am a little bit addicted now.

Have you tried dry body brushing before? What are your thoughts?

My Best GWP To Date

I really wanted to leave the first Gift With Purchase post to Mum because she is, undeniably, the Queen of the GWP, but I just couldn't help it, I had to share this deal with you!!

As you are probably already aware, Priceline is dangerous. If you don't believe me, ask Michaela over at Lather Rinse Repeat; she will back me up! The other day, I innocently went in to buy a nail buffer to attempt a Shellac self-removal and I left the store about 40 minutes later with a ridiculous amount of product and a hazy memory of what took place there. It's kind of like what happens to contestants on The Voice if they look directly into Seal's eyes; they don't know what's happening and neither did I!

Firstly, I want to give you a brief idea of what I actually purchased (stay tuned for reviews on these bad boys):

Untitled

2 x Revlon Lip Butters, 1 x Revlon Colourburst lipstick, 1 x Revlon Translucide Nail Polish, 1 x Manicare nail buffer, 1 x Rimmel 60 Second Nail Polish, 1 x Rimmel Lasting Finish

Total spent = $62 (there was a crazy 2-4-1 thing happening)

This is what I walked away with (I say that like I stole it or won it on The Price Is Right, but I assure you, that is exaclty how it felt when I got home to see what I'd actually acquired):

Untitled

1 x snakeskin print bag, 1 x body pouf, 1 x 1000 Hours Nail Foils with applicator and nail tools, I x Manicare tweezers, 1 x Models Prefer sponge, 1 x Natio Mineral Pressed Powder, 1 x Australis Paparazzi Perfect Blush, 1 x Max Factor Xperience mascara, 1 x DB Savvy pencil, 1 x Models Prefer eye liner, 1 x Revlon Lipgloss, 1 x Innoxa lipstick, 1 x Rimmel Lasting Finish nail polish, 1 x Nude Soft Focus Illuminator, 2 x Press and Go nail kit, 1 x Garnier Exfoliator Wipes.

Total Value = $220

See, I scored big. The items in this GWP might not be what you would normally buy, but if you're in Priceline spending the money anyway (minimum $60 spend on selected brands), then you can't really be too disappointed with this glorious gift. I know I'm not!

I walked past Priceline in the city on Sunday (yes, I refrained from going in) and they were still advertising the insanity that I took part in, it's worth checking out.

What's the best GWP you've received?
