I know I promised……..but I lied!!

Remember the horrific Babyfoot series?  And I promised that I had posted my last photo of my feet.  And I bet you believed me.  And until this week I believed me too.

But look….(squeals with delight!)…

I lied!!  I'm so sorry….but aren't they cute!?

These are my 'let my hair down' summer crazy Christmas toes.  And I had to share them because they are so gorgeous, so 'out there' for conservative old me, and such a great walking advertisement (ha ha … walking…get it?) for Sue Janz at The Nail Den.  Sue is a nail artist who gels my nails every fortnight, but, as I've shared before, her great talent and skills are wasted on me as I only ever go for conservative colours (no blue, green, yellow or black) or the traditional french polish.

Here is a great example of the beautiful work that Sue and Erin do at The Nail Den, at Springwood in Queensland.

But not on me.  I'm so middle of the road I look like a white line with cats eyes.

And my finger nails, well ….. they match my toes.  But without the polka dots.  Come on … I've gone crazy since giving up the corporate life, and I figure I can still hide my wild toes inside shoes if I have a business meeting.  Ooooo …. I feel so frivolous and fun.  Have you done anything 'out there' in a fit of summer madness?

Hello Darling Rockcandy dilemma

I don't know if you've heard, but everyone is talking about Rockcandy by Hello Darling. What a brilliant idea to add another dimension to the home mani by supplying a tub of beads to dip your recently lacqured fingernail into. I don't know about you, but I am just loving this (removal, however, is something that concerns me slightly).

You will imagine my dilemma when trying to decide what colour to choose. Take a look for yourselves at the variations on offer.

I finally decided to bite the bullet today and buy one of the kits to try out, and a new dilemma has presented itself. Half of the colours are currently sold out (the promise to be back soon though)!! What am I to do? Learn a valuable lesson from taking too long to decide which one to buy? Wait until they come back into stock? Or go with a colour that is still available? Oh, woe is me.

There are 10 Rockcandy shades to choose from and they are $24.95 each from Hello Darling with FREE SHIPPING (my favourite). What colour should I get? Have you tried them? Do you want to try them? Get in quick before they're all gone!

Creative Nails

Although I love all things girly – make up, clothing, shoes, perfume, jewellery, nail polishes, hair, the list goes on – I have come to the conclusion that I am really quite conservative, and always will be.  (Except maybe the foray into eyelash extensions that I undertook last year – but that's a story for another time.)

I know that my conservatism must be quite a disappointment to the two wonderful nail artists who look after my gelled nails, mother and daughter Sue and Erin, although they never say anything.  Sue did, however, try to talk me into having anchors painted on my red nails for the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May – but I resisted!

These two women are really quite accomplished artists, who do a fantastic job on their own nails (see above) as well as on their clients.  Many of their clients have acrylic nails that provide plenty of real estate to paint creatively on.  I've seen cupcakes and bowties, pandas and butterflies, stripes, spots and multicolours…the list is endless. The team have been looking after my nails for nearly two years now, and although I love the effect and how great my nails always look, their talents are really not fully utilised on me (I think I'm probably the only one who has my nails filed shorter, rather than extensions put on – but that's just me!)

I usually go for a colour – and it's always a red, coral, dark pink, cerise or variety thereof.  The most adventurous that I get is the fantastic french polish that they have perfected.  Until the beginning of the year Sue always did my nails.  She then went away for a few months, and I was nervous that Erin would not be able to recreate her mother's perfect french effect, but I worried for nothing.  Erin looked after my nails beautifully in her mother's absence, and I now get treated by them interchangebly.

The french polish I'm sporting this fortnight is stunning. It's done with Bio Sculpture, and along with 3 coats of clear gel, I have a coat of pale pink applied before the white tip.  It makes my nails look fresh and healthy, and because I spend a lot of time in meetings with people, I always feel confident that my nails look good.  But even better than that is the strength that they have, and the confidence of knowing that I'm not going to break a nail just by rifling around in my handbag for my keys.

I encourage you to check out the great and creative nail pictures on Sue and Erin's Facebook page, S'nailz.

They are located at Springwood, Queensland, and are doing 20% off for new clients at the moment.  It only takes an hour of your time, and if you don't like it, you can have the product soaked off again.  I consider it worth an hour of my time every two to three weeks.

Also - go and check out the fantastic colours at the Bio Sculpture site   You can have fun for hours if you go to the site and play around with the 'try me on' feature.  Have fun!!

Sue’s Top Tips For Top (Finger)Tips

There are two blatently visable attributes about a person's appearance that give away whether they take pride in their appearance or not.  And, would you believe it, they are the same for both women and men.

The first is the state of your shoes, and the second is the state of your hands.  I also think that, once upon a time, hair was a criteria but these days with messy bed hair, and sea spray beach hair, and shaved scalps and dreadlocks, hair can no longer be in there.

I know that my youngest daughter has spent more money, and dedicated more time to her dreadlocks than has been contributed to some very conventionally coiffed (or rather non-coiffed) heads and the hairstyle I have at the moment seems to benefit by me roughing my hands through it rather than smoothing it with a brush.  But shoes and hands, they're out there for everyone to see and opinions aren't usually too divided on them.
So firstly, and very briefly, shoes.  Clean them, keep them heeled properly, store them carefully (which means don't throw them in the bottom of the wardrobe all jumbled together) and once they are passed their prime, throw them out. Scuffed and shoddy shoes ruin your whole look and shout out that you just don't care.  Stay tuned for a dedicated post on 'The Perfect Shoes' coming soon.

And next, your hands. Look after them and keep them looking nice, because people notice them.  Especially if you're expressive and wave them about when you talk or, if like me, you're a 'touchy, feely' person and you reach out to people, grab their arms or hug them when you are talking to them (yes I know I'm a serial nuisance).  Believe you me, you can tell the age of a woman by her hands and no amount of plastic surgery can remedy that.  So better to look after them than to try and remedy neglect.

Here are some of my top tips for keeping your hands in a condition you can be proud of:

Always carry a nail file in your bag.  This is so important because you never know when you may need  to fix a nail up when you're out and about.  I have a glass one that does a beautiful job and although was a little expensive at $17, as long as I don't lose it, it will last forever.  If you break a nail if will drive you nuts if you don't have a file to fix it up straight away.

Another thing worth always carrying in your bag is hand cream, especially during winter.  I carry Clinique Deep Comfort Hand and Cuticle Cream 75ml $32.  It has no fragrance, so my husband is OK with it when he is captive in the car with me and I put it on.  It's worth having lots of creams around the house - the bathroom, laundry, kitchen, bedside table – and in the car and at work, so that you always have some handy that you can slather on.

Fortunately in winter gloves are a wonderful way to protect your hands, keep them warm and hide neglect – they are also great fashion items that are fun to have and wear.  Even in sub-tropical SE Queensland I have four pairs that I wear throughout winter.  Oh – and whilst I'm on about gloves – never, ever, ever wash dishes or clean a bathroom without rubber gloves.  If you do, you will get all that you deserve.

When it comes to nails, there are lots of options open to you (length, colour, naked, etc) but that is the subject of another post, so I will let you know all about my two wonderful nail ladies and the pleasure they have brought to my hands very soon. What is important to remember is that you keep your nails clean and neat. No chipped nail polish, no half-done manicures, and no dirty fingernails!

So, from the ends of your fingers to the tips of your toes, spend a little time and effort on the two things that I think can make a difference to the way your appearance is observed by the rest of the world.  And even if the rest of the world could give a damn, you'll feel great about yourself.
