Lip of the Week – Maybelline Super Stay 14-Hour Lipstick

I'd like to prefact this post by saying that I only realised that I selected Maybelline lip products as the first and second ever 'Lip of the Week' by complete accident. In fact, it wasn't until after I finished the post that I even realised this fact. I am in no way affiliated with Maybelline, just (clearly) a fan of their lip products!

That being said, the other week when I was sick and spending ridiculous amounts of money on doctor bills and medication, I decided to spoil myself with a new lipstick while waiting for my prescriptions to be filled.

I picked up one of Maybelline's new Super Stay 14-hour lipsticks in hope that I would be able to solve my constant problem with the lipstick reapply. I love putting lipstick on in the morning before leaving the house, but I haven't exactly mastered the reapply. I feel weird taking my lipstick to the bathroom to touch up through the day, pulling out a make up mirror and reapplying at my desk, or reapplying after meals. It just feels so bizarre to me.

I put lip balm on all through the day to avoid dry, chapped lips but you can put lip balm on without a mirror and not have to worry about smudging or going outside of the natural lip line. Lipstick, not so much!

The Maybelline 14-hour lipstick is pretty good. It's not drying like lots of lipsticks. The colour I chose was Ultimate Blush and it is shimmery and very pink, just how I like a lipstick! The colour doesn't last for 14 hours, I'm sorry but with eating and drinking, it would be near impossible to sustain the full colour. But, admitedly, the colour did stay on for most of the day so I will call it somewhat of a success!

I find lipsticks difficult because I have little lips, but the shape of this lipstick is perfect and the packaging is great.

All in all, the Maybelline 14-hour lipstick has been my favourite lipstick for a couple of weeks, but it is getting the official Lipstick of the Week honour this week!

Have you got any tips for me in my quest to tackle the lipstick reapply? Have you tried any of the Maybelline 14-hour range? What did you think?

The Lost Lipstick

Do you find that when you love a particular product, no matter how many substitutes you have, if you can't find it you can't stop thinking about it?  Two years ago, for my birthday, my sister-in-law – who loves Clarins products – gave me a Clarins lipstick and a hand cream.

I had never tried a Clarins lipstick before and this one was beautiful – a great creamy texture, good staying power, and a better colour I couldn't have chosen for myself.  I loved it.

Now, as I've mentioned before, I have in excess of 100 lipsticks, and I know that you know as well as I do that I can't wear them all and so about once a year I have a clean out and reluctantly throw a few old ones away.  But there are some that are really special, and the one Clarins lipstick that I owned was a special one.

And I lost it!

I searched everywhere.  I knew I couldn't have lost it outside so I searched all handbags, jacket pockets, make up bags, make up cases, travel cases, drawers in the bathroom, in the bedroom, in my dressing room, in my office and in the glove box in the car.  I found other great lipsticks in hiding, but not the Clarins one.

Months later when feeling the sense of loss again, I searched all of those places that I'd searched once, all over again and, earlier this year, after performing the same search again (you're beginning to think I'm a little obsessive now, aren't you?) I went to the Clarins counter to replace it but because I didn't know what the colour was called, I was reluctant to make the purchase.

This week I recycled some old suits from a spare wardrobe at my mum's that I haven't worn since winter 2010 (last year they didn't fit me and this year they do!) and when I was trying on one of the jackets, I felt something in the pocket.  I felt a great sense of elation before I even put my hand in to check it, I already knew it was the lost lipstick!  Imagine my excitement!

I have worn Clarins Joli Rouge 705 Soft Berry every day this week and  I am so glad to have it returned to it's rightful place – within my lipstick collection.  It's a beautiful lipstick in a beautiful colour.

Do your lipsticks end up hiding in crazy places?

The Perfect Lipstick

There are three things, it seems, that women are on the search for at some point in their life – the perfect man, the perfect bag, and the perfect lipstick. You might be lucky enough to find the man (Ryan Gosling, duh) and the bag (even if it might just be out of your price range), but the perfect lipstick is always on the horizon, the perfect colour changes from season to season and will we ever find one that doesn't budge while you sip your latte?

Obviously, there are things in life more significant than the perfect lipstick – love, family, laughter, memories – but it’s one of those things that can make any dull day seem brighter. In bad economic times, it is a fact that lipstick sales go up because it is the one, affordable luxury item that women can count on even when times are tough.

The Perfect Lipstick came into fruition when my mum and I decided to take years worth of research, samples, and purchases and put it to good use. From when we lived together and, now, over Skype, we have always loved sharing our recent beauty buys, sneaky gifts with purchase (GWP), current loves, and make up mishaps with each other and now we’ve decided it’s time to share it with anyone who is interested.

Mumsie!

We have a lot of great stuff to tell you about, but first I better introduce us (that's us up there ^). I’m Katherine; a 20-something living in Sydney. I work in television, spend too much time online, think cake and coffee is as great a combination as eye liner and mascara, and write a lifestyle blog called Through My Looking Glass.

My mum, Sue, will be co-writing this blog. She is a 50-something living in Brisbane, she is an incredible optimist who has taught me everything I know, she has the most intense lipstick collection I have ever seen, and never turns down free postage or a GWP.

Together, we plan on bringing you up to date reviews of our beauty and fashion purchases from two different age groups so be sure to come back and invite your mother or your daughter along too!
