I recently purchased a couple of (very) cheap Rimmel nail polishes. I should probably double check the receipt but I'm fairly sure they were $5.95 and $6.95 – one was Rimmel's Lasting Finish in Strawberry Fizz and the other was 60 Seconds in InStyle Coral.
I have been wanting a sherbert pink and orange combo for a while and found the shades I was after in the Rimmel section of Priceline. I didn't really hesitate at those prices, however, had I not been in the midst of a beauty bargain stupour I might have considered that this was probably going to result in a super short mani. Let's face it, when you buy a Chanel polish, you expect long lasting results; probably not the same expectations can be placed on a $6 product!
I'll give Rimmel credit, these polishes are pretty good for the price; there are a vast array of colours to choose from; and weirdly they have a fruity scent (update: as it turns out, the Lasting Finish is called I <3 Fruities Lasting Finish, so the scent makes scents…I can't believe I just punned it up there).
I ended up applying three coats of each because I found the coverage quite uneven and thin, however, let me side note that by saying that I had just self-removed my two-week old Shellac so I cannot place ALL the bumpy blame on the nail polishes.
They did dry quickly but they chipped and showed signs of wear at the tips after only a few days (even with a top coat). But, hey – remembering they only cost a few dollars each – these babies are here for a fun time, not a long time. If you can keep that in mind, there's no stopping the colour combo's you can bust out and if you're after seasonal colours to experiment trends with, these could be just for you!
